1. Be Loyal to Your Routine

We’re only human, so we are bound to make mistakes in life, and food is no exception. Although it is tempting to slum around during the cold, wintry months and gorge just because it’s the holidays, it’s also important to stick to your routine, especially if you were being “good” prior to.

Being loyal doesn’t mean restricting yourself to the foods you love, in fact, that will only cause you to binge. Instead, adopt a healthy proportioned plan that includes your favorites, as well as the foods that you need to keep your body in tip-top shape.

Your routine should obviously include exercise. If you are trying to lose weight, it’s obvious that you’ll want to burn more than you consume. Going to the gym or adapting your exercise schedule in the great outdoors are great ways to keep your energy up while burning those unneeded calories.

2. Eat All Your Fruits & Veggies & Don’t Forget Lean Protein

Medical research has shown us time and time again that eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, along with other key nutritious foods, is the best thing that you can do for your body.

This includes taking a look at your options. If you’re at a party, a dinner, a restaurant, or anywhere where the portions tend to get out of hand, it’s important to make smart choices. If you like bread, try a healthier form, with ingredients that include lighter versions, such as sprouted grains. If you tend to go overboard with sweets, try indulging in only a few small bites or trying options that are lower in calories and high in nutrients.

You never have to cut out completely what you most enjoy; the best thing is to simply be smart about it.

3. Portion Control

You know how it is when you dive into a really good meal and you just want to keep eating and eating it, even after you have become too full? Yeah, that’s not good for your health or your road to losing weight.

If you have a choice of plates, grab a small platter of healthy options with smaller amounts of the more indulgent things that you love.

Not only will you feel like you are eating more, but your choices will be a lot more beneficial to your health than filling your plate up with options that don’t benefit your health in any way whatsoever.

Although food during this time of year tends to be really good, stop when you’re full. Pay attention to the signals that your body is sending that it doesn’t want anymore. Or after eating a plate of food, you still find that you are hungry, go ahead and get more until you are satisfied, but you don’t want to be full or stuffed. It’s uncomfortable and not good for you.

4. Stay Hydrated

All the eggnog, hot chocolate, coffee and wine in the world won’t be enough to keep you hydrated during the holidays. Although these beverages are good, they tend to be full of sugar and they can’t hold a candle to the benefits of pure water.

Water fills you up and revs up your metabolism. Not only that, but it flushes your body of toxins and makes you feel more refreshed.

The good thing about water is that it has zero calories and zero fat. It hydrates from within as well as the skin. Did you know that it also adds shine to your hair and brightens your complexion? Well, if not, then it’s something to think about if you want to help look your best for all those holiday bashes.

For every non-hydrating beverage that you consume, remember to follow up with the same amount of water. Don’t like plain water? No problem, dilute it with a little juice or lemons for a refreshing flavored spritzer.

The holidays are fun, and who wouldn’t want to miss out on that? It’s a season of gathering and being together. You can’t really have too much fun without food, though. Even so, remember these tips so that you can avoid missing out on the foods that you love while still looking your best.
